Bondi Beach, Australia, November 18, 2007—Hundreds of activists form the shape of a humpback whale on Sydney's most famous beach.
The "aerial art" was meant to protest the killings of humpbacks and other whales targeted by Japanese fleets.
Japan recently began a five-month expedition to kill 950 minke, fin, and humpback whales, operating under a loophole in a global whale moratorium that allows "lethal research," Agence France-Presse reported.
Yesterday the European Union urged Japan to stop the hunt due to concerns about the whales' already vulnerable populations, according to AFP.
