Malibu, California, November 24, 2007—Smoke billows above Zuma Beach and Pacific Coast Highway during a wildlfire driven by the seasonal Santa Ana winds.

The fire destroyed 53 homes and spread through the canyons and hills, forcing thousands of residents to evacucate. No one was seriously injured, the Associated Press reported.

Last month the powerful winds had ingnited brush fires in seven counties in California that burnt about 800 square miles (2,070 square kilometers) and destroyed 2,196 homes.
